An off-duty Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested on suspicion of DUI after he crashed his Mercedes-Benz into another vehicle and injured a passenger. Deputy Allan James Waters had crashed his vehicle half an hour before outside City Hall in Dana Point but was allowed to drive away.
About 30 minutes later, at 5:20 p.m., Waters crashed his Mercedes-Benz into a Toyota in Laguna Niguel, causing it to cross the center median and slam into a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol. The 78-year old Toyota passenger, Dolores Molina, suffered minor injuries.
The Sheriff’s Department is conducting an internal investigation to determine why Waters was allowed to keep driving. He will remain on leave while the investigations are conducted. Our office wishes a quick recovery for Molina. It has to be said that it shows very badly on the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to have them let Deputy Waters go when he was caught for the first case. If our law enforcement officers are allowed to break the law , then how can we expect them to protect the public?
