Teen Dies in Interstate 15 Car Accident in Corona, CA

A young girl from the Inland Empire’s city of Corona died last week when the SUV she had been traveling in rolled over while riding along the Interstate 15, a popular stretch that has a large presence in San Diego, and travels northward and eastward through California’s Inland Empire and into Las Vegas. The girl was 16 years old.

The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victim as Alexis Victoria Vega, and she was reported to have died at the scene of the accident, which took place north of Limonite Avenue on the Interstate 15 driving southbound last Friday night.

Two Killed After Car Collides with Christian Band’s Tour Bus

A popular Christian band called MercyMe canceled a show from their summer tour in St. Louis after their tour bus collided with a vehicle in northeastern Indiana, leaving two passengers dead, including the pregnant driver’s unborn baby.

None of the band members was seriously injured and only suffered “minor bumps and bruises”. A news story on the bus crash and a photo of the damaged front end of the bus were put up on the band’s Web site last Saturday.

According to a police officer from Fort Wayne, Indiana, witnesses reported that the bus had been going through a green light at 1:15 a.m. when the car made a left-hand turn in front of it. The Dallas-based band had been in the midwest for a concert on August 14.

Woman Killed in San Bernardino County Personal Watercraft Collision

After her personal watercraft collided with another vessel, a 25-year-old woman died at Silverwood Lake in San Bernardino County. The woman, identified as Chanisar Dechakaisaya of Glendale, CA, was injured as she rode toward the shoreline when her PWC was struck on the right side by a 2000 Yamaha three-seat PWC. California State Park Rangers are still investigating the crash. Dechakaisaya was airlifted to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, CA, where she died.

Based upon a recent survey conducted by Allstate Insurance, the United States cities with the best drivers–based upon accident rates and data–are:

1. Sioux Fall, South Dakota
2. Fort Collins, Colorado
3. Chattanooga, Tennessee
4. Cedar Rapids, Iowa
5. Knoxville, Tennessee
6. Fort Wayne, Indiana
7. Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky
8. Eugene, Oregon
9. Boise, Idaho
10. Colorado Springs, Colorado

Four Los Angeles Cities at Bottom of “Best Driver” Rankings

A survey released by Allstate Insurance named four Los Angeles metropolitan cities at the bottom of their “Best Driver” rankings. The rankings look at accident insurance claims and data.

While smaller towns seemed to do better overall, the large metropolitan cities and suburbs that are found in Southern California seemed to do particularly poorly. Los Angeles finished 184 in the rankings out of 194 cities. Glendale finished 191, Fullerton at 175, and Garden Grove at 176.

The good news is that Allstate reported that motor vehicle accidents were down overall, most of which are caused by human error and distraction.

Car Chase Leads to 7 People Killed in Fresno Car Accident

The California Highway Patrol reported that a car fleeing a routine traffic stop struck a pickup truck, killing three people in the car and four young children in the truck. The accident happened in Dinuba, CA, just southeast of Fresno, when the police tried to stop the car for folling through a stop sign. The adults in the truck were identified as Carlos Salazar, Jr. and Jennifer Salazar of Orange Cove, CA. They were travelling with their fifth children. Four of the children were ejected and died at the scene. The fifth child was taken to a hospital with his parents. The three men in the car being chased were killed.

This is a tragic accident and we wish the best to the Salazar family. Unfortunately, the men in the car will not be held accountable for their reckless actions.

Young Girl Suffers Serious Injuries in Nevada County Rollover Car Accident

A 16-year-old girl suffered major head injuries and possibly a traumatic brain injury (TBI) when the Jeep she was a passenger in overturned in Nevada City. According to the California Highway Patrol, she was one of two passengers in a Jeep driven by a 17-year-old male. Alcohol is believed to be involved. Both the driver and the young girl were transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, CA. The third passenger, a 17-year-old male, was uninjured.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed by Survivor of Fatal Fresno Truck Accident

Concepcion Lopez, the sole survivor of a hit-and-run car accident in Fresno County, has filed a lawsuit against truck driver Hernesto Escalante of Modesto and his employer. Escalante was driving a commercial tomato truck when it crashed into the car carrying Lopez, her husband, and three other men. The impact was so severe that it caused the Honda Civic that Lopez was travelling in to go underneath one of the trailers. The four men were killed instantly, but Lopez survived.

Mother of Eight Killed in Bakersfield DUI Car Accident

Mother of eight and grandmother of fifteen, Maria Esperanza Rodriguez, was struck by a drunk driver and killed while she was crossing the street on River Boulevard just north of Height Street in Bakersfield on August 6, 2009. The Bakersfield drunk driving car accident took place less than a block from her home. According to the CHP, the drunk driver was stopped at the intersection, became impatient, and ran through the intersection running over Ms. Rodriguez.

More Women Involved in California DUI Car Accidents

The number of women across the nation, including California, arrested for drunk driving has increased nearly 30 percent in a decade, according to a study reported by the Dallas Morning News.
From 1998-2007, the number of women arrested for driving under the influence increased 28.8 percent, while the number of male arrests decreased by 7.5 percent.  [...]
